Biography
Dr. Paul J. Chang is Professor and Vice-Chair of Radiology at the University of Chicago. He is an internationally recognized expert in the field of imaging informatics and drives the development of advanced enterprise imaging solutions that integrate imaging data into clinical and research workflows. A novel lossless wavelet-based image distribution mechanism, dynamic transfer syntax (DTS), was co-invented by Dr. Chang, and enabled the development of one of the worlds first viable enterprise image distribution solutions and was a significant contributor to the generalized adoption of Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) within healthcare. His leadership in developing Stentor PACS, later acquired by Philips, was instrumental in transitioning radiology from film to digital imaging, laying the groundwork for integrating AI and data science into radiology. His ongoing work in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into radiology workflows is significant in advancing precision medicine, improving diagnostic accuracy, and enabling timely patient interventions.
