Biography
Jennifer Li-Pook-Than is a Research Scientist in the Snyder Lab in the Department of Genetics at Stanford University. She is a project leader of the SPHERE Center (Stanford Precision Health for Ethnic and Racial Equity). She has the unique privilege to work with members of the Lakota community including the Black Hills Center for American Indian Health (BHCAIH) and Missouri Breaks Industries Research (MBIRI). She heads the SAIL (Studies of Autoimmune Illnesses with the Lakota) focused on rheumatoid arthritis. Alongside her indigenous counterparts, is the initiation of a first-of-its-kind indigenous biobank/research center, the Native BioData Consortium (https://youtu.be/7v04xQPBSaY) housed within a Native American Nation. This work harmonizes her expertise in big data -omics (genome, transcriptome, methylome) with precision health concerns (ethics, privacy and policy). She is part of a unique collaborative team addressing precision health disparities with insight from tribal communities spanning multiple disciplines: including bioethics, cultural, IT and community engagement.

A Unique Indigenous Biobank For Omics Research
An initiative from Stanford’s Precision Health Ethnic and Racial Equity (SPHERE) Center, the Native Bio-Data Consortium (NBDC) is an endeavor harmonizing social, environmental and ethically insight from American Indian communities with state-of-the-art precision science from Stan-ford University. NBDC is the first multidisciplinary biobank wholly housed within an American Indian Nation.
