Speaker Profile
Biography
Megan Levings, Ph.D., is a Professor at the University of British Columbia, an investigator at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute, and Canada Research Chair in Engineered Immune Tolerance. She is internationally recognized for research on regulatory T cells, or Tregs, and their potential as living medicines for immune-mediated disease. Her laboratory studies the biology of human Tregs, mechanisms that maintain immune tolerance, and ways to engineer or expand these cells for therapeutic use. The work spans transplantation, autoimmunity, inflammatory disease, and cell-therapy manufacturing, with a strong emphasis on translating mechanistic immunology into clinical strategies. Dr. Levings has contributed to the development and immune monitoring of early clinical Treg therapies and to technologies designed to improve their specificity, stability, and function. She also leads the Childhood Diseases research theme at BC Children’s. Her research seeks to replace broad immunosuppression with precise, durable immune regulation by harnessing and engineering the body’s own tolerance mechanisms.
