Biography
Eric Horvitz is a pioneering leader in artificial intelligence whose work has helped define how intelligent systems reason under uncertainty, make decisions, and collaborate with people. As Microsoft’s Chief Scientific Officer, he leads initiatives spanning artificial intelligence, biosciences, healthcare, and the societal effects of technology.
His research has advanced machine learning, probabilistic reasoning, human-AI complementarity, and the deployment of AI in healthcare and other complex real-world settings. He has also helped shape responsible AI by founding Microsoft’s Aether Committee, establishing Stanford’s One Hundred Year Study on AI, and co-founding the Partnership on AI.
A recipient of the Feigenbaum Prize and ACM-AAAI Allen Newell Award, Horvitz has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society.
