Speaker Profile
Biography
William H. Robinson, MD, PhD, is the James W. Raitt, MD Professor of Medicine at Stanford University and Chief of the Division of Immunology and Rheumatology. A physician-scientist in autoimmune and rheumatic disease, he leads research combining genomics, proteomics, single-cell technologies, and computational approaches to understand how immune responses become pathogenic and how those mechanisms can be therapeutically targeted. His laboratory has developed translational programs in rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, osteoarthritis, and related immune-mediated conditions, with several therapeutic efforts emerging directly from its discoveries. A major recent focus has been the role of Epstein-Barr virus in autoimmunity, including work showing how EBV can infect and reprogram autoreactive B cells implicated in lupus. Dr. Robinson’s program is closely connected to the development of next-generation diagnostics and targeted therapies, and he has helped bridge fundamental immune biology with clinical investigation across Stanford’s immunology and rheumatology enterprise.
