Biography
Dr Peacock is Director of the COVID-19 Genomics UK Consortium (COG-UK), which delivers large-scale, whole-genome sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 to Public Health Agencies and the UK government. COG-UK generated the data that led to the detection and tracking of the new variant in the UK (lineage B.1.1.7), as well as other variants of concern. Dr Peacock has built her scientific reputation around pathogen genomics, antimicrobial resistance, and a range of tropical diseases. Her career includes 7 years working in SE Asia on melioidosis, leptospirosis and rickettsial infections. Dr Peacock has published around 500 peer reviewed papers and manages >£38M of current funding. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, and an elected Member of EMBO. In 2015, Professor Peacock received a CBE for services to medical microbiology, and in 2018 she won the Unilever Colworth Prize for her outstanding contribution to translational microbiology.
