Biography
George Church develops technologies for reading, writing and editing genomes, with applications in regenerative medicine and biotechnology. His research combines synthetic biology, DNA synthesis and directed evolution to engineer molecules and cells. He helped launch the Human Genome Project and the Personal Genome Project, and his innovations in DNA sequencing, molecular tagging and genome engineering have supported the development of numerous biotechnology companies, including Editas Medicine, Gen9 and Veritas Genetics. His work has been recognized with the Franklin Institute's Bower Award and election to the National Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Engineering.
